adama..... if that's the case, why not allow those who eager to learn and put them on silent mode so as they don't disturb the conversation among the expert... hahah
i am very old school and I believe in give and take. I prefer everyone gives something genuinely while taking something from other ppl. No one takes things for granted and just become a sleeper. Everyone must contribute and be a part of the community.
No need to worry too much, I think the current restrictions will only have impacts on non US data center players. US DC players can apply for licenses to acquire more computing power.
But it's a super bad news for China DC players in MLY. They can no longer use MLY as a loophole to acquire Nvidia GPU.
Now the words on street suggests that the new curb also will impose a new limitation on data center computing power on tier 2 countries and complete ban on tier 3 countries. If this is true then malaysia's ambition of becoming regional datacenter hub will be compromised.
They want cheap land, cheap water and cheap electricity ma. US view us as high ROI country, invest little but the return is big. I don't think they will stop invest in MLY la...
But It does have impact on companies like Bytedance if they want to use MLY as a loophole to acquire Nvidia GPU.
Actually data center doesn't bring lots of jobs one, I rather companies like AMD to invest more in MLY (they are expanding their chip design business in penang for their ryzen series).
Ya..
But u look at tier 1 countries...
EU (if you want to start a business in Germany, you need to print out 25k pages of documents)
Japan (Earthquake)
South Korea (Near to North Korea)
Taiwan (walking distance to Mainland China... I mean very near to them)
Australia (High cost)
...
I believe the US counterpart will acquire the necessary license to acquire compute in MLY. Don't forget that trump will be back on 20th of Jan.
You're right ..trump might not reverse it..but why rush this curb before Trump's inauguration? Even if he doesn't reverse it..what is US gonna gain by capping chip imports to US data centers..its only going to slow down US DC progress in AI.. if the slow down, china will find a way to overtake.

NVIDIA SLAMS BIDEN'S LAST-MINUTE AI CHIP EXPORT BAN
Nvidia is calling out Biden's reported plan to tighten AI chip exports just days before Trump takes office, warning it would cripple the U.S. economy and tech leadership.
Nvidia VP Ned Finkle:
"This disguised anti-China move will hurt the global tech industry, limit U.S. competitiveness, and force countries to pivot to alternative technologies."
The proposal aims to prevent China's military from advancing AI capabilities, but critics argue it will backfire by ceding market dominance to foreign competitors.
Don't get me wrong... US has to slowdown China, so the chip export/compute power constraints are real. However, there's always a loophole that China can use (smuggle or what)... Otherwise how come there is plenty of H100 现货 in China... Hahaha
biden doest stop US company from investing in data center infra in tier 2 country, they just dont want them to invest too much in just one particular country e.g. malaysia.
So US company will still invest in malaysia. It is just once they hit their quota, they have to invest in other country.
Wait till the facts tonight then we will know more...
