Greatech is establishing a U.S. manufacturing presence to get closer to key EV / battery customers (reduce supply chain delays, shipping costs, maybe avoid some trade/tariff issues).
• The U.S. facility likely supports localised assembly, small production runs, prototyping / validation, and perhaps custom automation equipment for customers in North America.
• For high-volume manufacturing and major fabrication, it seems likely that their larger plants in Malaysia (Penang etc.) are still the core.
• The U.S. facility could scale up in future, especially if demand and financial / regulatory incentives align. The “official launch” and plan to hire indicate intention for growth.
Big investment in manufacturing capacity
• They are building a new facility (BK IV) in Batu Kawan, Penang. The plant is about 500,000 square feet, on ~11.58 acres; total investment ~ RM1.3 billion including operating and capital costs.
• Once BK IV completes, Greatech’s total combined floor area will be over 1.2 million sq ft.
4. Diversification of products and geographies
• Expanding in verticals: solar / renewable energy, electric vehicle (EV) battery systems, life sciences, medical, semiconductors.
• They’ve done acquisitions / new subsidiaries to broaden capabilities. For example:
• Acquired Allied Automation Ltd in Ireland, which was renamed Greatech Integration (Ireland) Ltd, focusing on life sciences automation.
• Acquired Manz Slovakia S.R.O. (now Greatech Mechatronics Slovakia) for contract manufacturing, particularly for EU clients.
• Created Greatech Mechatronics (M) Sdn Bhd to focus on contract manufacturing.
Key Acquisitions & Moves
1. Allied Automation Ltd (Ireland)
• Acquired in November 2023 for ~ €1 million (≈ RM4.79 million).
• Renamed Greatech Integration (Ireland) Ltd.
• Its business: development, design & precision engineering of custom automated equipment, especially for life sciences.
2. Manz Slovakia s.r.o. (Slovakia)
• Acquired 100% stake in February 2025 (for ~ €1 million) when the parent company, Manz AG, was under insolvency.
• Manz Slovakia specializes in contract manufacturing, and does designing, developing, prototyping, fabricating, assembling, commissioning, installing & servicing production lines; focuses especially on e-mobility, battery solutions, semiconductor packaging, medical & automotive industries.
3. Kaon Automation (Ireland) – MOU to acquire 60% stake (from 2022)
• Kaon is an automation solutions company for medical devices, electronics, automotive etc.
• Not sure whether that 60% acquisition has fully closed / how integrated / software content vs hardware.
