KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 20): AirAsia Bhd group chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the low cost carrier was trying to add flights from Singapore back to Malaysia but had yet to obtain approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).

In a tweet yesterday, Fernandes said:” On Singapore flights we have tried to add but have yet to get approval from CAAS.  Will keep trying.”

He added: “Please thank my operations team and revenue team and communications team for all their hard work. We heard you and have done our best.”

AirAsia is adding 120 new flights to accommodate the increased demand from the 14th general election, and is also extending the initial fixed fares time period of May 8 to May 10, to include May 7.

This includes 74 flights within Peninsular Malaysia, 26 flights from Peninsular Malaysia to Sarawak and 20 flights from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah.
