OSAKA (May 31): Malaysia has secured more than RM8 billion in potential investments through the signing of 20 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) within the first two months of Expo 2025 Osaka, achieving over 60% of its overall RM13 billion target for the six-month global exposition.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who officiated the opening of the Malaysia Pavilion on Saturday, said the early outcome reflects growing investor confidence in Malaysia’s ambition for a sustainable and innovation-driven economy.

“The Malaysia Pavilion [at Expo 2025 Osaka] has facilitated several high-impact MOUs and strategic partnerships that reflect the country's forward-looking approach to regional collaboration, sustainable development and also technological advancement,” he said during a press conference following the opening ceremony.

“These agreements have covered a wide range of sectors including renewable energy, digital property services, biotechnology, caregiving innovation and also infrastructure development. The key focus areas have included efforts to support decarbonisation, advanced green hydrogen solutions, and promote smart facility systems and sustainable materials,” Fadillah added.

Fadillah noted that the Malaysia Pavilion has delivered tangible economic outcomes, facilitated cross-border knowledge-sharing, and positioned Malaysia as a regional leader in clean technology, inclusive innovation and future-ready industries.

A total of 101 Malaysian companies were involved in the 20 MOUs, with 398 business meetings held in the Malaysia Pavilion so far.

The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has also welcomed over one million visitors to date, surpassing two-thirds of its targeted 1.5 million guests before the expo concludes in October.

Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka is led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, and supported by 21 ministries and around 70 government agencies. Business weeks throughout the expo will feature Malaysian ministries, agencies and state governments in sector-specific forums, networking events, and investor engagements.

The 2,654.52-square-metre pavilion, designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is themed “Weaving a Future in Harmony” and features three key narrative pillars — Human and Human, Human and Technology, and Human and Nature — supported by core principles of harmony, diversity, progress and sustainability.

Fadillah described the pavilion as a “living, evolving story” that represents Malaysia’s aspirations for inclusive growth, global partnership and shared prosperity.

“By being here, we are not only showcasing Malaysia's capabilities and ambitions but also engaging directly with the people of Japan and the wider international community.

“This global stage fosters mutual understanding, encourages meaningful dialogue, and opens new pathways for collaboration across shared areas of interest,” he said.
