SEPANG: Malaysia Aviation Group's (MAG) engineering arm MAB Engineering Services Sdn Bhd will be using its Hangar 4 facility in Subang to perform maintenance works on narrow-body and wide-body airplanes.

MAB Engineering chief operating officer Eke Nazri Rahim said currently the two production lines in Subang caters for turboprop aircraft checks but once jet airplanes start operating out of Subang Airport the engineering company will extend its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services to jet aircraft as well.

"Under the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP), there will be more jet activities in Subang, which means there will be higher requirement for jet aircraft maintenance."

"With that (Hangar 4), we're able to perform (MRO works) not only on ATRs (turboprops) but narrow-body and wide-body aircraft as well," he told media an event here today.

MAB Engineering is currently performing MRO works on MAG subsidiary airlines Malaysia Airlines Bhd and Firefly Sdn Bhd as well as its other airline customers.

"In terms of (MRO work) ratio, we're doing 70 per cent for MAG and 30 per cent for our customers," he said, adding that he could not share the name of the company's customers due to confidentiality.

The event is the commemoration of MAB Engineering's first anniversary and launch of the nation's first aircraft maintenance digital certification.

MAB Engineering also launched its new uniform for its engineers.

The company has a total of four aircraft hangars and 12 production lines.

These include Hangar 4 with two production lines in Subang, Hangar 5 and Hangar 6 with nine production lines in Kuala Lumpur International Airport and a hangar with a production line in Kota Kinabalu.

In September last year, MAB Engineering entered into an agreement with Impeccable Vintage Properties (IVP) to lease Hangar 4 airframe maintenance facility at Complex A of Subang Airport.

IVP is a subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd. The company has been given the responsibility to redevelop and refurbish Complex A.

On MAB Engineering's anniversary, Eke Nazri said today marks the first year since the company operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of MAG.

He also said the launch of the aircraft maintenance digital certification is a milestone that proves the efficiency and security for MAB Engineering's MRO activities and sets the foundation for the implementation of the Aircraft Electronic Tech Log system that will be adopted by Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and MASwings.

"The success will be a cornerstone in moving Malaysia's aircraft maintenance industry into paperless aircraft certification, as well as strengthen our position as the MRO provider of choice," Eke Nazri added.
