KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata Group Bhd has appointed Vivek Sood as its managing director and group chief executive officer (CEO).

Vivek, 59, is currently acting group CEO and group chief financial officer (CFO) since June 2022 and April 2017 respectively.

He holds a Bachelor in commerce and became a qualified chartered accountant in India.

Prior to joining Axiata, he was executive vice president and group chief marketing officer of Telenor Group Inc. 

He had held positions as CFO and subsequently CEO of Telenor India, CEO of Grameenphone (Bangladesh) and COO and CFO of Tata AIA Life Insurance.

Axiata also announced the appointment of Dr Hans Wijayasuriya as group executive director and CEO of telco business. 

Hans, a telecommunications veteran counting 30 years in the industry, was also joint interim CEO together with Vivek and has held leadership positions across the group for many years.

With Vivek's promotion as group CEO, Lila Azmin Abdullah is now appointed as acting group   CFO. 

Lila is currently group chief corporate development officer at Axiata.
