KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 16): Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor has urged fellow Members of Parliament to behave themselves after being asked "how was zoo?" at a casual encounter previously.

“Please take note of that. We are live [broadcasting]. Yesterday, when I went to a Mamak restaurant (laugh), something happened to me. They recognised me, and asked ‘YB, how was zoo?’

“I was shocked. This is the impression that people have of us, so I hope MPs hold on to your ethics and virtue, our virtue and ethics,” he said, before ordering the ongoing meeting to proceed into the questions for oral answers session on Thursday (Feb 16).

Netizens have referred to the Dewan Rakyat as a zoo when MPs display "unparliamentary" behaviour.

Ramli also reminded MPs that decisions made by the Speaker or Deputy Speakers are final, and will not be open to appeals, in accordance with Sections 43, 99 and 99(A) of the Standing Order.

“For those who are new, please refer to that and read. Other than that, another reminder on the behaviour during our meeting in this hall, and in this space.

“For this, we can refer to Section 41 of the Standing Order. I want to remind you that I hope no small meetings are held when the Dewan Rakyat [session] is ongoing. When one MP was talking, I noticed small meetings being held somewhere,” he said.
