The three indices rose in part on strength for optical-networking stocks, which rallied on quarterly earnings and revenue beats for Applied Optoelectronics.
$Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI.US)$ gained 9.2% on the well-received numbers, while fellow optical-networking names $Coherent (COHR.US)$ (up 13.4%), $Lumentum (LITE.US)$ (6.2% better) and $Corning (GLW.US)$ (5.4% firmer) rose in apparent sympathy.
Software stocks – which have struggled recently amid fears that artificial intelligence will steal their businesses – likewise rallied on earnings beats and/or well-received forward guidance from Atlassian and Cloudflare.
$Atlassian (TEAM.US)$ soared 35.3% on the news, while $Cloudflare (NET.US)$ added 5.6% after hitting an intraday record high during the session.
That helped push fellow software stocks higher as well. Winners included $Palantir (PLTR.US)$ (up 10.3%) and $ServiceNow (NOW.US)$
Software firms $Applovin (APP.US)$ (3.3%) and $Datadog (DDOG.US)$ (up 2%) also rebounded from sell-offs they suffered Thursday following their own quarterly earnings and/or guidance, which Wall Street had initially panned.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk's struggling space-and-tech firm $SpaceX (SPCX.US)$ rose 15.8% Friday, rebounding for a second day after finishing Wednesday at $108.27 – its weakest ending since going public in June at $135 a share.
Our visit to 3xxx left us with a positive impression of the group's near-term outlook, with mgmt guiding for 20% YoY growth in FY26 revenue (FY25: RM107m) and PBT margin improvement. The order book stands at RM60m. The engineering support services segment (c.60% of group revenue) remains the core revenue driver, with 15-20% revenue growth expected from its key MNC customer despite a rate adjustment. Notably, the group is also moving into the front-end space with a new semiconductor manufacturer. The automation segment offers the most exciting developments, where 3Ren is gaining early traction in AI/DC, working with a US-based customer on server rack verification and GPU validation. A major US technology customer is establishing a plant in Batu Kawan, with initial contribution of RM1m+ from 40 racks in 1Q26, scaling to a target of 1,000 racks within 2 years.
The Lighthouse overhead transport system (targeting BE semiconductor) is aiming for launch by 2Q/3Q 2026. Geopolitical impact remains minimal, with c.95% of revenue denominated in RM, limiting exposure to external volatility.
The Lighthouse Overhead Transport: This is Stratus Global's proprietary AMHS solution, which targets back-end (BE) semiconductor factories and assembly lines.
We visited 9 companies across Penang, spanning ATE, metal fabrication, ESS, EMS, IC design, and aluminium distribution. Managements were broadly optimistic, with most guiding for double-digit topline growth in 2026, anchored by sustained AI/DC demand
